The week ahead...

Hi dancers

So I chatted to a few of you about launching a Yr 12 dance intervention after school to help with written work. This will start after christmas and the best day for the dance department would be Thursdays after school 3.30-4.30pm. How is that for everyone? If you can't make it can you come up with some alternative days (its not an intervention you must attend weekly but is there for anyone who is struggling)

We have a very busy week ahead of us make sure you have set an after school rehearsal between all of you to practice the Cunningham piece for the show which is looking beautiful :) very proud of you all.

Also we have the fabulous auditions workshop with two professional west end dancers on Wednesday so remember to be prepared with you CV and headshot and looking professional as if you are entering an actual audition (All needs to be written up for your portfolios after)

Other key dates to remember:
- Winter Wonder Dance show Friday 9th (I need you there from 3.30-7ish)
- Professional Make-up day Tuesday 13th December 9am-3pm
- Loggs (as far as you have got) due in 15th December
- Blogs with applied feedback 15th December
- New Audits (first draft) 15th December

Hi dancers

Your milestones based on your blogs have been marked but a large number are lacking detail and a few of the videos have not been downloaded and commented on.
I will give you your milestone feedback in class tomorrow which MUST be followed so that you can improve your grades.

Also we have extra rehearsals after school tomorrow 3.30-6pm for you and yr 13 to practice for next Friday - Joe i have chosen your idea and named it the Winter Wonder Dance Show (thank you for your ticket designs too Joe)

See you period 5

Work to complete: 10th and 11th Nov

1) Write up brainstorm of dance styles and like an audit say what you have experience of and what you do not.

2) After this select your areas of strong knowledge and where you have gaps.

3) Discuss the gaps in more detail (link to getting jobs and how this restricts you) and select an area to develop e.g. ballroom dance, hip hop, commercial styles in order to develop your skills base further.

4) Research into the key skills you are going to need to improve, in order to learn the style e.g. ballroom, placement of feet, rise and fall, arm positions, footwork (but lots of detail).

5) Decide where you are going to start – the basics, the beginning steps and film.

6) Analyse film for how you have started. Be really honest and really realistic – ruthless!

7) From this film and your research notes set yourself a schedule of improvement, like a timetable. Write this up. Give yourself now till Christmas hols (16th Dec).

8) It is now your challenge to log your own personal development and film little video diaries as often as possible.

9) Also if you take pictures these can go in your book.

10) You also need to finish your cv and get your headshots. This then needs to be presented in
your file.

Work will be checked Friday 18th Nov

Well Done Rey!

Rey is winning the blog update this week!

Yr 12 Please remember that JRCS is on trips days and then half term, so no more lessons till week beginning 31st October. Yes we will miss you too - Keep up with those sit ups and training!

Over half term can you look into not only catching up on everything and getting your new big books or folders sorted but also can you please put together your performers CV and head shots. These are your photos as if you were registering with an agency to attend auditions etc. Usually black and white head and shoulders shot looking in a moody pose.

You will need them for a mystery task upon our return...a clue Night Fever!

Look after yourselves
Miss J and Miss England :)

Using the videos

On the videos yes it is good to enter a specific time and say what has happened e.g.
2:05 Flopped
2:07 More Energy

But marks cannot be awarded for this.

You need to tell us Why? How? What is the importance? What skill is lacking and needs to be developed? How could you develop in this skill more? Independently what do you need to think about to get better? What needs to change?

Do not just write two words about a whole exercise and expect to get marks...if only it were that easy!

:)

7th October 2011

In todays lesson we thought about the skills developed in each exercise of the Graham Technique.

You can then use these to write a really strong log for your book, to disucss whether or not you are developing in those skills and HOW (what is changing in your body, how do you know you are doing it correctly?)

If you are feeling pretty flash too you could use the skills to make sure that your blog video analysis is in depth and highlight evidence (times) where you are really working to show the skills or where you need to work harder!

Hulloooo and welcome!

Right Year 12 Welcome to the world of Blog. These entries are assessed on your ability to analyse your own skills development and personal journey of improvement.

The work on here complements your folder and allows you to show your practical work to the examiner in a clearly presented way.

With each video you upload I want to know:
  • What your targets were at the start of the session?
  • How you worked to improve these targets?
  • What new skills you have worked on?
  • Any feedback you were given by peers or teacher?
  • How what you have done has helped you in preparation for entering the Performing Arts Industry?
  • What skills still need to be improved - setting targets for future.
  • Any research you are now going to look into e.g. history, style, influences, industry knowledge.
We will be checking that they are maintained regularly - so be proud of your work and make it personal. Remember you can never tell us enough about yourself!!!!

Miss J and Miss England.
